My Story

Hello,

My name is Joe Weidinger, and I started Health, Home & Harvest with a simple goal in mind. That goal was to share the knowledge and the tools that I’ve aquired over the years, to help others live a healthy, happy, and more fulfilling life. I have found, through my own experience, that when we prioritize the basics in life, most of the challenges we face can be managed with ease. The idea is to keep life as simple as possible by getting back to the basics of what makes us human.

My interest in gardening has been a cherished, family pastime. My grandparents always had a garden where they lived, which instilled in me, a genuine appreciation & respect for nature. Once I had a home of my own, I started out small, with a modest 4x8 raised bed, which has grown many seasons over the years into a 900 square feet area of my yard, where I grow just about anything I can. My organic garden doesn’t just provide healthy food for me & my family, it provides a small escape from the day-to-day rush that can easily overwhelm us all.

My passion for woodworking & building in general, was also a childhood hobby. From building with Lincoln Logs & Legos, to hide-outs & forts made out of scrap wood…I was hooked on the idea of the almost endless possibilites that I could create. After many years of acquiring tools in my adult years, I started making small repairs to my own home and even building small pieces of furniture, radiator covers & decor. In 2012, I took on a big challenge by designing & constructing a 24’x12’ cedar deck for my house, complete with two built-in planter boxes surrounding custom stairs. With the help of the internet, I researched every aspect of the build right down to the joist hangers & slope angle, and can proudly say, it is still standing strong after 12 years of use. For me, it is a daily reminder of an accomplishment that I confidently completed with only moderate building experience.

I was taught health at a young age, to balance my diet, and felt healthier & more energetic when I did so. Through the years, I’ve done a good job in keeping that mindset, as I can proudly say that at 50 years young, I am still about the same size & weight I was when I was 20. I’ve always kept myself active in life, whether it was Ice Hockey, Mountain Biking, or dozens of other outdoor activities. In early 2017, I sustained an injury playing Hockey that forced me to rethink nutrition a bit, as I wanted to heal as fast as possible to get back on the ice to play again. As always, I researched every angle and found the best foods to assist in my healing. After a few months of trial runs with variations of foods, around the summer of 2017, I went vegan, no longer eating anything sourced from an animal. Today, 7 years later, I feel better than I ever have, mentally & physically. In 2020, I expanded my thirst for knowledge in the subject by obtaining a certification in plant based nutrition. I am also currently studying to gain a certification as a Personal Fitness Trainer as well as a Health & Wellness Coach. I’ve personally experienced the amazing effects of these simple, yet extremely powerful healthy methods, and I want to influence & educate others on how to adopt & apply them to their lives, so they can share in the experience.
